Suzuki's iconic middleweight roadster, the SV650, is set to make a comeback in the European market after being discontinued from the continent earlier this year. Courtesy of not meeting stricter Euro5+ emission norms, the motorcycle was taken off the shelves, alongside the V-Strom 650. Now, the motorcycle has been certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), confirming its return to Europe as a 2027 model.
The SV650 will borrow its engine from the SV-7GX, a sport tourer that is already on sale in Europe. A few changes to the engine to better optimise emissions of toxic gases, just like the SV-7GX, which meets Euro5+ emissions, and the bike should be ready to hit the continent. On the sport tourer, the 645cc V-twin engine produces around 73bhp and 64Nm. The performance numbers should be similar for the neo-retro roadster.
Suzuki might take this opportunity to equip the SV650 with new technology, helping it keep up with modern times. We might see the introduction of goodies like ride-by-wire, traction control, and ride modes. Subtle nip and tuck to its bodywork for the much-needed visual freshness is also a possibility, but we believe the iconic silhouette will be kept unchanged. What other revisions Suzuki will incorporate remains to be seen.
Expect Suzuki to globally unveil the new SV650 at this year's EICMA show in Milan, which happens to be the mecca for manufacturers to exhibit their new products.
